What to bring to a facility meter walkthrough

A practical checklist so on-site energy reporting visits stay short and produce usable charts afterward.

A meter walkthrough works best when the facility team arrives with more than keys. Bring recent utility invoices, a simple zone list, and photos of any meters that sit behind locked rooms you cannot open that day.

Labeling matters more than fancy tools. If two meters share a similar name on the panel but serve different floors, write that distinction on the spot. Later visualization of energy consumption depends on those tags remaining stable across reporting cycles.

Safety and access come first. Confirm escort rules, PPE, and which rooms need advance notice. An incomplete walk with accurate tags beats a rushed walk that invents names you cannot defend next quarter.

After the walk, expect a short confirmation list from the reporting team: meter IDs, zones, and any gaps. Approve that list before the first formal pack goes to ownership. Corrections are cheap at this stage and expensive after charts circulate.
